HOW TO INSTALL JOOMLA TEMPLATE?

This tutorial will guide you through installation of your new template to Joomla! 1.5. Also you will know how to make installed template default on your website and how to uninstall it. Useful information for everyday use by any Joomla! 1.5 user.

 

DOWNLOAD YOUR TEMPLATE FILES

First you should download all files for installation from your template provider. This may be some source files or an archived template file. Here is a list of what files you may see:

  • Template Archived File (grandiens_v1.0.tar.gz) You will use this file to install the template into your Joomla 1.5 website. Such files usually has the *.targz, *.tgz or *.zip extensions.
  • Template Fonts (tmplt_fonts.tar.gz) This is the file that contain all fonts that are used in your template. You may want to use it for site design customization, banner creation or logo text editing.
  • Template Sources (prime_tmplt_source.png) Such files are usually included in packages to let you customize your template design. We usually provide source PNG files which are editable in Adobe Fireworks, a professional design tool for web developers. Some other template companies provides customers with a PSD file of template design that can be edited in Adobe Photoshop.

    INSTALL TEMPLATE

    These are the steps to install the template into your Joomla site:

  • Log into your site Admin Control (www.yoursite.com/administrator)

  • In the Menu at the top of Admin control, go to Extensions > Install/Uninstall.

  • Browse for your template file (grandiens_v1.0.tar.gz). Next click Upload File & Install. How to install Joomla template


  • In appeared message you may see that the template was uploaded successfully. How to install Joomla template

    DEFAULT TEMPLATE

    Now you may make the uploaded template your website default template. Go to Extensions > Template Manager. Choose your template by checking a radio button and select Default button. As you can see - your template became a default template.

    UNINSTALL TEMPLATE

    To uninstall a template, you should make it not by default. You cannot delete a default template.

  • Go to Extensions > Template Manager. Choose another template and set it as by default. How to install Joomla ttemplate

  • Then go back to Extensions > Install/Uninstall > Templates. How to install Joomla template

  • Choose the template you want to delete and select Uninstall button. How to install Joomla template

Hello Sophia,

The issue you do have is very likely related to permissions, try to be sure have the ftp layout into Joomla global configurations turned on and as well it has valid account which has permissions to create fles/folders.
